Black peppered spots on the fur or the skin of the animal can be as a result of flea dirt. The flea dirt is a combination of the flea waste and blood that develops as the fleas bites and sucks blood out of the pets. Flea dirt will leave a brownish-red stain if one passes a moist towel over it and therefore if a person is not sure whether the spots are flea dirt they can pass a moist towel over it. That an animal is infested with fleas the other sign is excessive chewing and scratching. An itching sensation on the animal is caused by the saliva that is secreted by the fleas which results to a lot of scratching.
